Earlier this year we blogged about how Google was shutting down 10 of its services, now Google is in the midst of it's spring clean and has added yet another 12 additional web services to that list of 10 closures earlier in the year. Some of these you may know already, while other Google services may be totally new.

The full list of new Google service closures includes: Google Bookmarks Lists, Google Friend Connect, Google Gears, Google Search Timeline, Google Wave, Google Knol, Google's Renewable Energy Cheaper than Coal initiative, Code Search, Jaiku, iGoogle's social features, University Research Program for Google Search and the Google labs website.

So what were, or are, these Google services that are now shutting down?

Google Code Search

Google Code Search is a Google service which allows Google users to search for open source code on the Internet. Google Code Search will still be operating until the end of the year and will be closed on January 15th 2012.

Google Buzz

Google Buzz was the Facebook of the Google world and allowed its users to publish comments similar to Facebook's Status's, upload photos, import information to their Google Buzz profile from other websites such as Twitter, Picasa, Flickr, and Google Reader. It also was faster than Facebook as comments appeared in real time over having to reload the page to see the latest status update from your freinds.

Google Buzz is being superceeded by Google+.

Google Jaiku

Google Jaiku amoung other things was a feed that allowed users to shares their on line activities using programs such as flickr for their photos and their physical location via their mobile phone's built in GPS.

All the features that gave iGoogle social intergration with its websites user will be closed in favour of Google+ on January 15th 2012.

iGoogle itself, and non-social iGoogle applications, will stay as they are however.

University Research Program for Google Search

The University Research Program for Google Search provided dedicated access to Google search results for a small number of approved academic researchers. The University Research Program for Google Search will close on January 15th 2012.

The Google Labs web site

The Google Labs website was a testing ground for new experimental Google products before they went live, like Gmail and Google calender.

Google Bookmarks Lists

Google Bookmarks Lists was a social bookmarking idea which allowed you to "star or bookmark" content you found on the internet which was then organised in to a list for you, or other Google users, to find at a later date.

Google Bookmarks Lists will be discountinued as of December 19th 2011

Google Friend Connect

Google Friend Connect allowed/s you, or web developers, to add social features to your website like comments, rating systems or sharing the content on your web page. The Google Freind Connect service will be discountinued as of March 1st 2012.

Google Gears

Google Gears was a project that enabled web apps to be created and these web apps would then allow new features to be added to your web browser. Google Gears is shutting down on December 1st 2011.

Google Search Timeline

Google Search Timeline was a historical search tool which allowed users to see what people searched for in the past.

Google Wave

Google Wave, or Apache Wave as it was also known, was a software that centered on online real time collaboration between people about a certain topic. These people could then discuss and work together using text, photos, videos and maps to discuss the topic in detail.

As of January 31st 2012 Google Wave will stop accepting new "Waves" and the old "Waves" will become readable only until Google can find another way to access this information.

Google Knol

Google Knol is a website that helps improve the quaility of web content by enabling experts in the same field to collaborate on in depth articles to make it as relevant as possible. Google Knol will stop new Knols from being created on April 30th 2012. From May 1st 2012 through October 1st 2012 Google Knols will no longer be viewable but users with exisiting knols can still download and exported them.

Google Knol will be switching to Annotum, which is a scholarly authoring and publishing platform based on WordPress.

Renewable Energy Cheaper than Coal initiative

The Renewable Energy Cheaper than Coal initiative was a Google initiative to drive down the cost of renewable energy.
