If your internet service provider (ISP) is BT then you may be experiencing problems sending emails out through MS Outlook using your own domain name. If this is the case then read on for a solution.
As a number of our clients have experienced this problem I thought it worthwhile to publish the solution to assist anyone else who may be struggling.
BT encourage you to use the FREE email account they gave you, make it a little difficult for you to use your own company email. This is for security BT tells us. However, no other Internet Service Pprovider (ISP) puts this restriction in place.
To override this restriction you need to call BT's helpline on 0845 600 7020 and ask them to set up a mail relay service for your website.

If BT was my ISP then I would be able to receive emails to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it into my mail client MS Outlook on to my PC. However I would not be able to send them out from This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
By requesting BT to set up a mail rely service for www.specnet.co.uk would then enable me to send emails via

When BT sets up this mail rely service please note it will take anywhere between 2 and 24 hours to kick in, so patience is really important.
Once the restriction has been lifted you can set up an account in MS Outlook in the normal way defining your POP3 and SMTP settings to your own domain name.
